| Only partial results available. This was an 8-player double-round all-play-all tournament. The New Zealand Herald lf 1 June 1877 (p.2) gives almost complete results, apart from the pairings Lusk-Schmidt, Heather-Schmidt, and Heather-Gorrie, for which neither game had been played, and Schmidt-Gorrie, for which one game remained unplayed. Results for those final games have not been found (if indeed they were played), but the crosstable is close to being complete, so I use the known results for rating. The cup was given to Morton as winner on 9 July 1877, but since the results reported on 1 June are so close to complete, I guess that the tournament finished in June. |
