Start date: 26 Feb. 1875 |
End date: May 1875 |

Notes: |
Only partial results available. This was the second-class section of a 5-section tournament, with 3-game matches between each pair of opponents, where the winners of the 5 sections were intended to play off at the end. However, the tournament was abandoned before play in the individual sections had been completed. Although all five players listed here were in the second class, Barnes, McCutcheon, and Ryan had to give Pawn and Move to the others. Van Winsen gives results for three pairings, but only who won each of these (3-game) matches, not the exact score. I record these as a soft result of 1-0 in each case. Van Winsen gives the names of four other players as certainly in the second class section: C.H. Avery, H.P. O'Neil, [Alfred] Thompson, and Wiesner, but also says that two other players are mentioned at some point as potential second class participants (Crawford and Dwyer), but we have no other confirmation that they actually played. |
