Name: Dusseldorf Tournament
Place: Dusseldorf
Start date:
End date: 1864

Notes:
Only partial results available. This was a 26-player single-round all-play-all, in which draws did not count and so are not included in the scores. The Schachzeitung of Jun. 1864 (p.193) says that there were 26 players, but then gives Max Pflaum's score as +26-0 and Balduin Wolff's score as +20-6, but all other scores out of 25. I will guess that these two scores were errors and should read +25-0 and +20-5, respectively. Wolff, Ruben, and Möhringer won 5th, 6th and 7th prizes respectively, but only after a play-off. They originally got the same score (Wolff got 20, so presumably the other two also got 20). The results of the play-off games are not given, but one may suppose that Wolff beat the other two and that Ruben beat Mohringer. There may have been draws in the play-offs, as in the main tournament, but they would not have counted, and none are mentioned. On p.193 the Schachzeitung says that the tournament was held during the winter over a period of almost 6 weeks. On p.197, it says that the game O. Pflaum - Schnitzler took place in the Spring.
