| Dates not known, but the tournament and first round pairings were announced in the 22 Nov. 1851 issue of the Illustrated London News (p.619) and the report in the April 1852 issue of the Chess Player's Chronicle says that it 'has recently been brought to a close'. My guess is therefore that it began in Nov. 1851 but was not finished until early 1852. Although Staunton gives 'J.H. Walsh' and 'H.W. Carden' as players in this event in the 22 Nov. 1851 Illustrated London News and in the Dec. 1851 Chess Player's Chronicle (p.374), he then gives 'D. Carden' and 'H.D. Walsh' in the Dec. 1852 issue of the Chess Player's Chronicle (p.356). |
