| Feenstra Kuiper and Gaige give location as New York; Di Felice and Hilbert give location as Thousand Islands. Di Felice gives dates 20-25 July 1897. Hilbert gives dates 2-6 Aug. 1897. Davies says the first game (Steinitz-Napier) was played 3 Aug. 1897, but then gives dates of the next two games (Napier-Lipschütz and Lipschütz-Steinitz up to adjournment) as 3 Aug. 1897, and it seems unlikely that three were played in one day. Gaige and Di Felice give the result of the play-off as +0-0=2, but Hilbert makes it clear that only one game was ever played, a draw on 6 Aug. 1892. |
