Name: New York Chess Club Tournament |
Place: New York |
Start date: Dec. 1853 |
End date: Mar. 1854 |
|
Notes: |
Partial results available. 8-player knockout tournament. All first round results given, though the Albion says only that 'Lloyd' won by the odd game over O'Sullivan. Since it seems clear that 3 wins were required to defeat an opponent, I assume that this score was 3-2 (though there might have been draws). Only the Perrin-Thompson result is given for the 2nd round; 'Lloyd' beat Gallatin but no score given. Lloyd then must have won the final against Perrin. I include these as 1-0 results to be conservative. Dates are not given, but partial first round results are from the Albion of 3 Dec. 1853 and the final result is from the Albion of Mar.18, 1854, so I estimate that it started in Dec. 1853 and finished in March 1854. I am guessing that 'Lloyd' is actually Thomas Loyd. |
