Event table notes

Event data
Name: New York Chess Club Tournament
Place: New York
Start date: Jan. 1854
End date: Mar. 1854

Notes:
Partial results available. 8-player knockout tournament. All first round results given, though Spinrad cites the Albion as saying only that 'Lloyd' won by the odd game over O'Sullivan. Since it seems clear that 3 wins were required to defeat an opponent, I assume that this score was 3-2 (though there might have been draws). Only the Perrin-Thompson result is given for the 2nd round; 'Lloyd' beat Gallatin but no score given. Lloyd then must have won the final against Perrin. I include these as 1-0 results to be conservative. Dates are not given, but first round results are from the Albion of Jan.7, 1854 and the final result is from the Albion of Mar.18, 1854, so I estimate that it started in Jan. and finished in March. I am guessing that 'Lloyd' is actually Thomas Loyd.
