Only partial results available. This was a 17-player single-round all-play-all tournemant, but since von Gomperz played no games, it was essentially a 16-player tournament, though official scores were given out of 16, including all of von Gomperz's forfeits. We have a complete crosstable, given in The Chess Monthly of May 1884 (p.265), but this source does not specify the handicap classes of the players. Österreichische Lasehalle of May 1884 (p.145) gives the scores of the eight prize-winners, and mentions that Schindler also played in the first class. We know that Schweinburg was in the second class because we have a game in which Csank gave him Pawn and Move odds (Chess Monthly, Sep. 1884, p.14). Österreichische Lasehalle of Feb. 1884 (p.64) mentions that Mazel was also in the second class. Thus, I can rate these eleven players, but not the other five, without knowing their handicap classes. The other five players who actually played were: Dr. Klimsch, who scored 6 out of 14 games played; Paul Hübéry, who scored 2 out of 13 games played; Leopold Strasser, who scored 3 out of 14 games played; Louis Singer, who scored 1 out of 12 games played; and Ignaz Singer, who scored 0 out of 2 games played. |
