Notes:
Only partial results available. This was a 7-player, double-round all-play-all tournament. Scores reported in the Washington Evening Star are quite garbled, but a likely interpretation of the scores up to 18 May 1895 can be constructed, with a careful reading of the reports and some educated guesses. The scores of all players after the first round are clearly reported in the 20 Apr. 1895 issue (p.13), where numbers of wins, losses, and draws for each player are given. The report of 27 Apr. 1895 (p.13) switches to point scores, like 5.5-2.5, and the score for Molstad, given as 1.5-6.5 must be in error: consistency requires that it was 0.5-6.5. Then from 11 May, the scores are given in a mixed-up form, like +6.5-4.5=2 (for O'Farrell in the 18 May report), which make no sense. If the points from the draws were added into the win and loss scores, then more than the required total number of games would have been played. Most likely, the draws column should be ignored, and then the wins and losses, sometimes including half points, make sense. Furthermore, the 11 May report expressly states that 8 games remained to be played, and ignoring the draws column gives scores consistent with this statement. Three more games were played by the 18 May report, but I have found no subsequent reports to fill in the missing 5 games. The information is almost enough to construct the second-round crosstable, and if one guesses that Gwyer's second round win was against Molstad (which seems highly likely), rather than against one of the stronger players, then the second-round crosstable can be constructed in full. There is also a clear error in the 27 Apr. report, saying that Walker beat Wright, but at this stage it must be Walker beat Tharp to be consistent with other information. I have used scores of the almost-complete tournament, with the 5 missing games (I believe) being Wright-Hanna, Wright-O'Farrell, Hanna-Gwyer, Hanna-Molstad, and Walker-Molstad.
