Notes: |
The results of the main tournament given in the American Chess Magazine of Jun. 1897 (p.19) give scores for 10 players totalling 53 points. A 10-player, single-round all-play-all tournament consists of only 45 games. However, an 11-player, single-round all-play-all tournament consists of 55 games, so it may be that there was an 11th player who scored 2 points. That is the assumption I will make, though it may be wrong. The result is given in the Jun. 1897 American Chess Magazine (p.19), so I guess that it finished in May 1897. The Jun. 1897 issue of the American Chess Magazine (p.19) says that O'Farrell won the play-off for fourth prize against Harris +2-1, but the Jul. 1897 issue (p.109) gives the result as +3-1 for O'Farrell. Perhaps a fourth game was played after the first report. |
