Event table notes

Event data
Name: Marshall Club Championship
Place: New York
Start date: Nov. 1941
End date: Feb. 1942

Notes:
Five of the original 18 players withdrew after playing only a few games, and their scores were cancelled. Marshall played only two games, but we only have the result of the first one, a win over Richman. Green played only two games, a win over Grobman and a draw with Ulvestad, before going to Boston 'for some time'. Probably he never continued. Lasker is listed with a score of 3-3 in the 26 Jan. 1942 issue of the Brooklyn Eagle (p.13), and the 5 Feb. 1942 issue (p.16) says he had withdrawn. However, we know his opponents in only 3 games, wins over Hidalgo and Ulvestad, and a loss to Collins. Ulvestad is listed with a score of 2.5-1.5 in the 15 Jan. 1942 issue of the Brooklyn Eagle (p.18) and not mentioned again. The only two games of his for which we know his opponents were his draw with Green, and his loss to Lasker. Finally, Grobman must have dropped out early, since he is not listed in the list of scores to date in the 15 Jan. 1942 issue of the Brooklyn Eagle (p.18). We know only of his two losses to Levy and Green. The known games of the 5 players who did not complete the tournament are given here as additional 'match' results, since I cannot construct a crosstable from the data available: I only have the final scores for the 13 who finished.
