Event table notes

Event data
Name: Paris International Tournament
Place: Paris
Start date: 17 May 1900
End date: 19 June 1900

Notes:
17-player all-play-all, in which one game was scored for each pairing. However, if the first game was a draw it did not count and a second game was played, which did count even if it was a draw. Here, as usual, we score all games actually played over the board, including the draws not counted in the official scores. Goeller and La Grande Storia degli Scacchi and the Marshall Career web page show Brody's loss to Burn as by forfeit; Hannak, Feenstra Kuiper, Gaige, Pope and Di Felice give no indication that it was forfeited; Forster (p.631) cites evidence that the game was, in fact, played. Feenstra Kuiper, Di Felice and Goeller give dates as 18 May - 20 June 1900; Gaige, Forster and the Marshall Career web page give dates as 17 May - 19 June 1900 and Forster cites an article by Hoffer confirming that it started on Thurs. 17 May. Pope gives the dates of Pillsbury's first and last games as 17 May and 19 June, respectively.
