However, as this was a one-day event, it is likely that only a single game was played between each pair. No mention is made of replayed draws. The Chess Player's Magazine of July 1864 (p.206) indicates that Schloesser beat Cooper in the first round, but then has Cooper advancing to the second round. The Illustrated London News of 11 June 1864 (p.579) indicates that Cooper beat Schloesser in the first round, which must be correct. |
