| The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of 20 Oct. 1895 (p.5) gives the date as 1894 and result as 5-3 for Showalter; Feenstra Kuiper and Di Felice give the date as 1893 and the result as +5-3=0 for Showalter; Graeme Cree gives 1893-1894 and +5-3=1 for Showalter. Gillam, in the Quarterly for Chess History, gives 1893, and +5-3=1 for Showalter. The New York Tribune of 16 Nov. 1893 makes it clear that the match was to start on 18 Nov. 1893. The New York Times of 7 Jan. 1894 says the match was finished the night before with result +5-3=1 for Showalter. |
