| Fiske's book gives dates 1 Dec. - 27 Dec. 1845 (p. 417) but then lists a pamphlet by Stanley whose (long) title includes the dates 1 Dec. - 26 Dec. 1845 (p.492). Staunton gives dates 1 Dec. - 27 Dec. 1845 in the Chess Player's Chronicle (v.7, 1846, p.80), as does the Spirit of the Times. He also gives the result as +5-8=8 for Stanley in the 1846 Chess Player's Chronicle (v.7, p.80), but +15-8=8 for Stanley in the 1848 Chess Player's Chronicle (v.9, p.335), which is the score given in all other sources. Stanley gives the score as +11-7=4 in Porter's Spirit of the Times (13 Dec. 1856), but here he confuses the score with that of one of his matches with Schulten. |
