| Potter's obituary of Staunton (City of London Chess Magazine, Aug. 1874, p.166, also reproduced at Sarah's Chess Journal website) gives the result as +11-7=3; all other sources give +14-7=3. Giffen gives dates as Feb.-June 1846; Di Felice gives Mar.-Apr. The Chess Player's Chronicle gives the start date explicitly as 2 Feb. 1846 and the concluding report is in the June issue, but Staunton's column in the Illustrated London News of 2 May 1846 gives the final result, as does the Apr. 1846 issue of Le Palamède, so I presume it finished in April. |
