Notes: |
Played after the handicap tournament following the main international tournament at the Paris Congress. Czarnowski, Preti and Fery d'Esclands had won 1st, 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in the handicap tournament and Fery d'Esclands put up his prize as a stake to be played for by the other two: hence, this match. The report in the Illustrated London News of 4 Jan. 1868 says that the prizes for the handicap tournament had just been distributed, so I suppose the match took place in Dec. 1867. |
