Notes: |
This result is given in a letter to the Chess Player's Chronicle (1847, v.8, p.218) by 'J.I.M.' dated 14 Apr. 1847 from Negapatam, India, concerning chess in and around Madras. 'J.I.M.' is not identified, but according to 'thePeerage.com' James Innes Minchin was in Madras from 1844 to 1873, so it seems certain that the letter was from him. When these games were played is not stated, but I will assume they were played in the first few months of 1847. In any case, they could not have been played earlier than 1844. |
