Notes: |
Walker gives the result as +8-2 for Wilson, as stated by Hoffmeister himself. However, this report came three years after the match and the report in the Hampshire Telegraph and Sussex Chronicle of 30 Jan. 1832 gives the result as +6-2 'out of eleven (the number prescribed)'. This could mean that the other 3 games were drawn, or, more likely, that they were not played, since 6 points was enough to win the match. The Hampshire Telegraph and Sussex Chronicle says the monetary prize 'was contended for on Wednesday last', which would be 25 Jan. 1832, but it is not clear whether that was the first day of the match, the last day, or whether the whole match was played on that day. |
