Although the games between de la Bourdonnais and Kieseritzky were mentioned in the third issue of the 1839 volume of Le Palamède, this issue came out very late, probably in 1840. Kieseritzky had not long been in Paris, so I guess that they took place in early 1840, though it could have been in 1839. According to Le Palamède, de la Bourdonnais gave Kieseritzky alternately the Knight and Pawn and Two Move odds. Only two games at Knight odds were preserved (as far as I can tell) and appeared in Bell's Life in London (16 Jan. 1842, p.4; 30 Jan. 1842, p.2), and it is not clear whether only these two games were played at these odds. I have decided to use the result in any case, as an indiation of de la Bourdonnais' strength at the time in comparison to Kieseritzky. |
