Notes: |
According to the letter in the Chess Player's Chronicle of Oct. 1850 (pp.318-319), Bannerjee (or Bonnerjee) first encountered a member of the Calcutta Chess Club in the autumn of 1848, but 'Until the early part of last year, Moheschunder had never been twenty miles from his native village...' He was taken to Calcutta to play Cochrane, who beat him in 'six games or so off hand'. On the basis of this information, I guess that these first games between them took place in 1849. |
