Notes: |
Staunton, in the Illustrated London News (14 May 1853, p.363) and in the Chess Player's Chronicle (Jun. 1853, p.181), and Kling and Horwitz, in the Chess Player (Jun. 1853, v.3, p.319), mention only one game between Harrwitz and Allen at the Manchester meeting, a loss for Harrwitz. However, Medley, in the preface to the book of The Chess Congress of 1862 (p.xx), mentions 'several' but without giving the result. Thus, I consider this a 'soft' result of 1-0 for Allen. |
