Event table notes

Event data
Place: Montreal
Start date: Feb. 1884
End date: Feb. 1884
Hilbert (Writings in Chess History, p.50) quotes the Montreal Daily Witness which says that of 2 even games between Zukertort and Ascher played on 14 Feb. 1884, Ascher won one (which suggests that Zukertort won the other, since draws and wins against Zukertort were unusual and therefore usually mentioned). Hilbert (p.54) also quotes Zukertort himself from a letter written in Apr. 1884, in which Zukertort says he played 'a few' games even against Ascher, of which Ascher won one and drew one. I take these two reports to mean that Ascher scored +1-1 on 14 Feb. but that at least one other game was played at another point during Zukertort's visit to Montreal, a draw for Ascher. Since I don't know how many other games were played, I am counting this as a soft result of +1-1=1.
