According to D.W. Fiske (in The First American Chess Congress, p.507), Morphy had played 'about thirty games' vs. James McConnell, winning all but 1. Most of these were likely played before Morphy went to college in Dec. 1850, and the game scores we have were from 1849 and 1850, so I have split the 30 games evenly between the two years, assuming one loss in 1849. |
