Notes: |
Staunton in The Chess Tournament gives his score as +7-2=1 (p.377) and gives all the games, saying explicitly (p.374) that the tenth game was the last. But in the Chess Player's Chronicle (1851, v.12, p.281) and in the Illustrated London News (30 Aug. 1851, p.267) Staunton gives +7-2=2, as do Kling and Horwitz in the Chess Player (6 Sep. 1851, p.62) and the Albion (13 Sep. 1851). Spinrad gives both. Sergeant, Feenstra Kuiper, Golombek, Di Felice, Hooper and Whyld, Wade, Mark Weeks, Giffen, Sarah's Chess Journal and La Grande Storia degli Scacchi give +7-2=1, as does the Sept. 1876 issue of Shakhmatniy Listok (pp.7-8). The end date of Aug. 1851 is deduced from the date of the report in the Illustrated London News. It may have begun in July or Aug. 1851. |
