Hooper and Whyld and the Chess Player's Chronicle (1856, new ser. vol.4, p.127) give +4-0, but The Chess Player (1852, v.2, p.38) says there was one draw (+4-0=1). Spinrad also gives +4-0=1. According to the Chess Player's Chronicle, this match and the Williams-Medley match took place at the end of 1851 and the beginning of 1852. The report in The Chess Player appears to suggest that the match with Mongredien was first, but Bell's Life in London says it came after the Williams-Medley match. Thus, it was played in 1852 and I guess that it finished in January. |
