Notes: |
According to Dubois' account, given in the Era and La Nouvelle Régence, in about 100 games, Baruch 'lost a trifling majority'. Zavatarelli cites a letter by Discart to say that in about 100 games, he was ahead by at most 3 or 4 games. I use a result of 52-48 for Discart. Dubois gives the year as 1854, but Zavatarelli says that Discart was in Florence in 1852 and 1853. Note that a later account by Dubois, published in Rivista Scacchistica Italiana (Dec. 1900, p.323ff) gives the same story with Tassinari as Discart's opponent instead of Baruch (see also the Quarterly for Chess History, vol. 5, pp.168,172, and Sericano's web page on Tassinari). This seems very likely to be an error. |
