In his book, von der Lasa says that he had previously played only two games with Hanstein (presumably the result given by Di Felice and recorded separately here), and that this was the first set of 50 games they played against one another, in which Hanstein ended with a 9-game disadvantage. Von der Lasa makes the point that Hanstein took a while to get accustomed to new opponents, and that later he did better. Since this was the first set of 50 games they played, and these competitions began early in 1839, I will assume that this result belongs to that year. |
