Staunton says in the 14 May 1853 issue of the Illustrated London News (p.363) that Williams played two games against Kipping at the 'Great Chess Meeting at Manchester', and in the Chess Player's Chronicle of Jun. 1853 (p.181) he says that Williams lost both, but Löwenthal says that they played 5 games, Williams winning 3. Zavatarelli says that Kipping won +3-2. The Field of 14 May 1853 says that the final score between them was 4-3 for Williams. The event was held over two days, 6-7 May 1853. |
