Feenstra Kuiper and Di Felice give the total score of 3 matches between these two players in 1869 as +12-2=8 for Neumann. Negele's website says they played only two matches, and the definitive biography by Renette and Zavatarelli gives only two, of which this was the second. The Chess Players' Quarterly Chronicle of Apr. 1869 (vol.1, p.188) gives the result +4-1=3 for Neumann. The Round Table of 22 May 1869 (p.333) gives a result of +4-1=1 for Neumann. Renette and Zavatarelli give the date of the first game as 9 Feb. 1869. The Era of 28 Feb. 1869 (p.4) gives a current score of the second match as +1-1=1, as does the New York Clipper of 27 Mar. 1869. The Era of 25 Apr. 1869 (p.7) says that the second match had finished. Renette and Zavatarelli date the final game to Mar. 1869. The Round Table of 10 Apr. 1869 (p.237) gives a game in their 'pending' match, but Renette and Zavatarelli say this was an offhand game. |
