| It is not clear whether or not this was a formal match or whether all games were reported in the Illustrated London Magazine. The Sept. 1853 issue gives two games dated 22 Aug. 1853, and the Oct. 1853 issue gives what it calls a 'Continuation of the series of fine original games just concluded...'. The Nov. 1853 issue did not have a chess column and no further mention of these games is made. I take this to mean that the score was +3-1=1 for Buckle either in the entire series of games, or in the first 5 games of a longer series. Although somewhat uncertain, I will consider it representative and use it for rating. |
