Notes: |
Feenstra Kuiper and Di Felice give this as a match result; Sergeant in Morphy Gleanings (p.39-41) gives it only as a career record (and on p.14 misattributes this result to Stanley). Fiske (p.414) indicates that these games were played 'after the close of the Congress, in 1857', i.e., after 11 Nov. 1857 (Fiske, p.91), and just before Morphy's departure from New York (Fiske, p.511), i.e. before 17 Dec. 1857, in 'three or four sittings'. This is consistent with the report in the Jan. 1858 issue of the Chess Monthly (p.30). Lawson says the match took place on the last two days of Nov. and into Dec. 1857. |
