The Jan. 1858 issue of the Chess Monthly (p.30) gives a total score of even games in New York of Morphy against Lichtenhein as +4-0=3. Taking out +3-0=1 for their tournament games leaves +1-0=2 from offhand games. These games were played while Morphy was in New York for about 2 months from Oct. to Dec. 1857. Gilberg asserts, however, that they played 7 games after the Congress, Lichtenhein drawing 3. |
