| The Chess Player's Chronicle (1847, v.8, p.25 and 1856, new series v.4, p.1) gives +2-0=1 for Mayet; Feenstra Kuiper, De Felice, Golombek, La Grande Storia degli Scacchi and Sarah's Chess Journal give +3-2=1 for Mayet; Spinrad gives both. In the absence of any early source for the latter result, I will use that given in the Chess Player's Chronicle. Spinrad gives the year as 1838 in some places, but points out that the Chess Player's Chronicle (1847) gives the exact date 17 Apr. 1839. La Grande Storia degli Scacchi gives '1836 (38?)' and Sarah gives 1838. |
