A letter by Edge dated 30 Aug. 1858 gives +2-0 for Morphy; Spinrad gives the same result from the New York Times of 21 Oct. 1858 as well as from the Birmingham tournament book. Lawson, Sarah's Morphy website and the Era of 29 Aug. 1858 (p.13) say he played the games on the evening of his arrival in Birmingham, 26 Aug. 1858. |
