Notes: |
Fiske says that Morphy left London on 2 Sept. and arrived in Paris on 3 Sept. 1858. Edge says they left on 31 Aug. and arrived on 1 Sept. In any case, Sarah's Morphy website says he played an offhand game with Harrwitz on the Saturday (4 Sep.). Löwenthal in the Era of 12 Dec. 1858 (p.5) and Falkbeer in the Sunday Times of 5 Dec. 1858 (p.10) give a total score of Morphy against Harrwitz of +5-3=2, which if we subtract the +5-2=1 from their match leaves +1-0=1 outside their match. The extra draw does not seem to be mentioned elsewhere, so perhaps it was an error. |
