Event table notes

Event data
Place: Paris
Start date: 2 Sep. 1858
End date: 1858

Notes:
Spinrad gives this result from the New York Times of 27 Nov. 1858. Edge (p.178) says they played 'upwards of a dozen games at different times', Morphy winning all. Löwenthal in the Era of 12 Dec. 1858 (p.5) gives +12-0=0 for Morphy, as does Walker in Bell's Life in London of 21 Nov. 1858 (p.3) and Falkbeer in the Sunday Times of 5 Dec. 1858 (p.10). These games must have taken place between Morphy's arrival in Paris, so in Sept., Oct. or Nov. 1858. Edge (p.149) says that Morphy played Journoud on his first visit to the Café de la Régence, which according to Lawson was 2 Sept. 1858.
