Lawson and Sarah's Morphy website say that Morphy won 5 to Budzinsky's 1 at Pawn and Move odds; Edge (p.201), Walker gives +5-1=1 for Morphy in Bell's Life in London of 28 Nov. 1858 (p.8), and Falkbeer (Sunday Times 28 Nov. 1858, supplement, p.3) and Löwenthal (Era 28 Nov. 1858, p .5) give +5-1=1 for Morphy at Pawn and Move odds, but Löwenthal in the 12 Dec. 1858 issue of the Era (p.5) and Falkbeer in the 5 Dec. 1858 issue of the Sunday Times (p.10) give +12-0=1; Lange gives +12-1=1 at Pawn and Move. The Chess Monthly of June 1859 (p.199) gives +12-2=1 for Morphy at Pawn and Move. Sarah's Morphy website suggests by her chronology that these games were played before Jan. 1859, and thus in 1858; Lange says they were played in the Autumn of 1858. I presume the result given by Edge was a partial one, and those by Löwenthal, Falkbeer and Lange almost a complete score, while the Chess Monthly I assume to give the complete score. |
