| Sunnucks gives date as '1859 or 1861'; Hooper and Whyld, and Spinrad give 1859. Staunton, in the Illustrated London News of 4 June 1859 (p.550) says that Kolisch has just arrived in Paris and played these games against Harrwitz, and this news was reiterated in the Chess Monthly of July 1859 (p.232). Shakhmatniy Listok (Jan. 1861) says that Kolisch arrived in Paris in May 1859 (or late April with the difference in Russian dates) and missed Morphy, who had left Paris. Zavatarelli dates these games to Apr. 1859 (between the 7th and 23rd). |
