Notes: |
According to Lawson, this was referred to beforehand as a match in the New Orleans Sunday Delta and other papers. Lichtenhein afterwards objected to this being referred to as a match, claiming that they were only analyzing. The weight of evidence seems to suggest that they were actual games. Lawson gives one game dated 21 July 1859. The Chess Monthly of Aug. 1859 (p.263) gives a result of +1-0=0 for Lichtenhein at Knight odds, but perhaps this was just the first of the series. |
