The New York Times of 4 Nov. 1859 (and Spinrad citing that source) gives 2-0 for Morphy at Pawn and Move odds; but the New Orleans Sunday Delta of 20 Nov. 1859, Reichhelm, and Lawson say 2-0 at Pawn and Two Moves, which I take to be correct. Sarah's Morphy website and Kingston (citing Lawson) also give 2-0 at Pawn and Two Moves. The Spirit of the Times of 19 Nov. 1859 gives 1-0 at Pawn and Two Moves. Lawson gives the date as 1 Nov. 1859. Kingston gives 2 Nov. 1859, but referring to Lawson. Löwenthal gives 2-0 for Morphy at Pawn and Two Moves in the Era of 4 Dec. 1859 (p.13) but then in the 18 Dec. 1859 issue, he gives the odds as 'P against two moves'. He says these games were played in Philadelphia, after his departure from New York on 1 Nov. 1859. |
