| This result is given by Schumacher in a letter to von der Lasa dated Dec. 1843, without saying when or where these games took place. He only says that Alexandre did not win a game against Popert, without saying how many they played. I will use a soft score of 2-0 for Popert, since the statement suggests that more than one game was played. I am guessing that they took place in Hamburg, where Popert seems to have been on returning to Germany from Britain (he played Horwitz there in 1842). I am also guessing, with even less certainty, that these games took place earlier in 1843, since Alexandre was in Germany that year, though they may have been played some years earlier (and possibly in Britain). |
