| Spinrad gives the result +3-0=1 for Harrwitz from the Oxford Encyclopaedia of Chess Games with date 1860. Two games between these players appear in the May 1861 issue of the Chess Player's Chronicle as 'lately played at Vienna' and may belong to this series of games. In an article by Peter Anderberg in the journal 'Caissa', he indicates that the +3-0=1 result comes from the games actually published by Steinitz in the Field between 1877 and 1880. He also indicates that in an obituary of Hamppe, Steinitz gives the complete result of the match as 7-5 for Hamppe (with some draws). I record the result as +7-5=1 for Hamppe, not knowing how many draws there were. |
