Wilson (under a pseudonym) claimed to have beaten Mouret once at Pawn and move in a letter to the editor of Bell's Life in London (11 Feb. 1838). The editor (George Walker) replied that Mouret must have been drunk (which was known to happen at times). In the 18 Feb. 1838 issue, Wilson counters that Mouret was not drunk, and indicates that this took place in 1818. The statement does not preclude losses by Wilson against Mouret as well at those odds, and we have nothing like a score of games, but the claim does sound like either a single game, which he won, or a match which he won. I will use a soft score of 1-0 for Wilson. |
