Spinrad gives a result of 2-1 in offhand games from Divinsky's Life Maps of the Great Chess Masters. The Chess Player's Magazine (Aug. 1863, p.40) says that these were played in London in July 1862, around the time of the tournament, and says there were five or six games in addition to the one printed there, Anderssen winning 'a large majority'. Harding gives four of the games, with a score of 2-2, but the other two or three games have not yet been discovered. Harding is also able to date two of the games exactly to 9 and 10 Jul. 1862. A reasonable guess at the result from the above information is +4-2 for Anderssen, though I have to consider this a 'soft' result, since it is not a definite score. |
