| Feenstra Kuiper, Sunnucks, Di Felice and La Grande Storia degli Scacchi give date as 1874; Zavatarelli, and Hooper and Whyld give 1875. However, the Field of 31 Oct. 1874 gives the start date and the first game, and the 5 Dec. 1874 issue of the Illustrated London News and the 5 Dec. 1874 issue of the Field give the final result. Tim Harding's article clarifies that the exact start and end dates were 29 Oct. 1874 and 30 Nov. 1874. The 29 Oct. start date is given in the Field of 31 Oct. 1874, and the end date of 30 Nov. agrees with the statement in the Field of 5 Dec. that it finished 'on Monday last'. |
