| The 9 Oct. 1875 issue of the Toronto Globe gives the score as 7.5-4.5 for Ensor, but van Winsen quotes Mason's correction of the score to 7-5, and this discrepancy and it's correction is discussed in the Spirit of the Times of 13 Nov. 1875. Samsin says it took place in Sept. 1875. The 9 Oct. 1875 issue of the Toronto Globe says the match was 'recently played'. The Buffalo Globe of 1 Oct. 1875 gives says it started 21 Sep. 1875. According to van Winsen, Mason saw the last games of the match when he visited Buffalo in Oct. 1875. Also, the Detroit Free Press of 3 Oct. 1875 gives a score to date of +4-2 for Ensor. So I take it that the match ended in the first few days of Oct. 1875. |
