Notes: |
Date given as 1884 in Feenstra Kuiper and Di Felice. However, the Newark Sunday Call of 16 Aug. 1885 says that 'The long drawn out contest... has come to an end.' Sergeant attributes it to the year 1885, and says it was begun at Bath and finished at the St. George's Club in London. The result is also given in the 25 Jul. 1885 issue of Land and Water (information from Tim Harding). The Chess Player's Chronicle of 14 Jan. 1885 gives the start date as 23-12-1884. |
