Feenstra Kuiper and Di Felice give result as +6-2=6 for Blackburne. The British Chess Magazine of Aug. 1891 (p.392) gives +6-3=5 for Blackburne, but this is a misreading of the original report in the Sept. 1890 issue (pp.362-363), which makes it clear that the result was actually +5-2=7. Feenstra Kuiper and Di Felice give the location as London. The reports in the British Chess Magazine say that the first 8 games were played in Bradford and the last 6 in London. Harding gives all 14 games, and found that the first 9 games were played in Bradford (some of the confusion arises because the first five draws did not count towards the score). Play was to move to London once either player had 3 wins. The result in Bradford was +3-1=5 for Blackburne, and in London was +2-1=2, for a total of +5-2=7 (although officially +5-2=2, which gave a score of 6-3 for Blackburne). As usual, I use games actually played for rating purposes. |
