| The American Chess Monthly of Aug. 1892 (pp.136-137) gives an account of the progress of the match, saying that the first two games were played on 1 Aug., and the remaining 3 were played on 2 Aug. 1892. The London Chess Fortnightly of 14 Jan. 1893 (p.75) says it started 1 Aug. and ended 6 Aug. 1892. I will trust the former account as being closer to the event in time and place. Hilbert, in his biography of Hodges (p.112), details other events Hodges was involved in immediately after the match with Delmar, on 4 and 6 Aug., so it seems unlikely that the match with Delmar continued until 6 Aug. |
