Alan McGowan, in a Kibbitzer note on the chessgames.com page for Martin Blaine, says he was born either 15-10-1916 (according to his death record) or 15-10-1917 (according to the 1939 English Register). He also says that he was born Marton Blum in Hungary, and was known in England as Martin Blum until 1946, when he was naturalized and became Martin Blaine (McGowan cites The Gazette of 21 Feb. 1947, p.863).
